Life

So, life is definitely not dull with a baby.

He is starting to wake up so this will probably be short.  I can't believe he's two months already!!!   At least he is sleeping through the night.  Well, he has for the last three nights.  I get my first experience putting him to bed myself tonight (my hubby usually does it so I can get some extra sleep!)

I was talking to my sister yesterday and she was telling me all the things she did last week.  She works full time and has three classes (12 credits) this semester.  I told her that my life was boring and I hadn't really done anything except go to MOPS (we learned about decorating and I had fun planning my next house) and take care of my house and baby.  She told me that was a full-time job in itself!  It is, but doesn't make for good conversation sometimes.

Anyway, I should probably go feed Joshua.  Hopefully he'll be a good baby today.  I love when he smiles.  Oh, and I do have pictures posted on photobucket finally.  For my friends - feel free to email me for the link and password.

Joshua

Life has taken on a whole new dimension with Joshua. . .  I have added a photo of his birth announcement.

He arrived by c-section after 24 hours of labor.  We were not home for 24 hours and we were back in the hospital for jaundice.  It was a very rough start.  He cried for almost two days straight at home and at the hospital.  My parents arrived the day after we got home (the second time) and stayed a few days to help out.  I was only shuffling around and found getting up and down difficult.  Fortunately, my husband had 10 days paternity leave so I did not have to face any of this alone.

He is now almost a month old and I am still trying to adjust.  I have never been one to handle sleep deprivation well so this is a whole new experience for me, being exhausted all the time.  Fortunately, my husband takes his turn regularly when home and has given me tons of breaks.  I am still hoping that before he goes on any overnight trips that Joshua learns to sleep a few more hours at a time.  For a few days, he was sleeping 3-4 hours, but he is back to sleeping an hour and eating for an hour.  Hopefully this is just a growth spurt that will end soon!

So, if this is incoherent, please put it down to a lack of sleep!  I am looking forward to this weekend for some serious r&r!!!

Two Weeks Left!

I am 38 weeks today so that means theoretically I have 2 weeks to go.  However, everyone knows that babies don't generally come on the date expected so I have anywhere from 0 - 4 weeks technically left.  Of course, two weeks late would mean Joshua would be a Christmas Eve baby and that's way too close to Christmas for my taste, and also would mean the ruin of all my plans for the month.

All the grandparents will be coming in and out of town to visit.  (I am really relating to the Christmas story in many ways - first child, boy, people coming in bringing gifts. . .)  But timing is crucial.  I like to plan (ok, I ALWAYS plan everything) so this is a bit different experience for me.  I can't make everything work the way I want without paying thousands of dollars for a c-section on the day I want.  And my miserly tendencies outweigh my need to plan!  Anyway, we are looking forward to having a couple of Christmases - once with each set of grandparents so it should be lots of fun.

No snow here - I hear up north in all the states I have formerly lived in that they have already experienced winter.  Here, winter is not winter.  It is the last week of November and the temperatures this week are in the 60's.  I am not complaining.  I do not like the cold and won't mind not paying heating bills as much as my northern counterparts will.  But I have always dreamed of the ideal winter - snow on Christmas Eve that melts on New Year's Day.  Then you have enough time to play without getting tired of the slush and mess and ice.  I suppose that means I will have to permanently live down South and spend that week up North to get the right blend!!!

Anyway, so I will be spending another two hours at the dr's this afternoon with the millions of tests that they want to do.  As a pick-me-up I am hoping to do a little Christmas shopping afterwards.   I really am trying to get all that done so I don't get stuck in the hospital without all my Christmas presents bought!

Hanging in There

Well, another week closer. . .

I couldn't go back to sleep after hubby left for work so here I am at 6am.  Another week gone by.  I feel like I am just marking time right now.  This is just a temporary stage because when Joshua arrives in a few weeks, things will get immediately hectic.  I have family coming in, I'll be finding my way with Joshua, Christmas will arrive shortly, and time will just fly (not to mention I'll be able to eat all the things I can't now!)

For now, though, I'm making a sweater for him, and will attempt to make a toy hammock (we'll see how that goes!), and reading my "What to Expect" books (for labor and the first year).  It's very interesting and I hope to be as ready as I can be.

This week

Well, first, happy birthday to the USMC!  I am sure every hairdresser in town has been busy doing ladies' hair for the ball tonight.

I have a cold that I have somehow caught from my husband.  I suppose it is inevitable when you live in the same house as someone.  That is, in fact, how I finally came down with the chickenpox.  Although I was exposed several times as a child, I did not catch them until my sister brought them into the house (when I was 11 or so and it was very painful!)  I must have a high resistance to such diseases because it was several days before I caught this cold, and it is still not terribly bad, and I hope to be almost over it.

I am currently reading Agatha Christie novels.  I like both Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot.  I am going to have to see if I can dig up a book I remember - something about the 12 labors of Hercules.  I vaguely remember that there was a mythological person by the name of Hercules and that he performed 12 incredible feats and that the 12 mysteries in this book were somehow related, however, I don't know much about mythological literature so I will have to rely on the good old internet search engine (or possibly the library catalog, since I will just borrow the book) to find it.

While I do like to read books before I buy them (which is one reason I love the library and Barnes and Noble!) I do not often buy mysteries, for the simple reason that it is not as much fun when you know the ending.  I may read them twice to put together things I missed in the first reading, but seldom more than that.  The books I own (and I own a few hundred) I read quite regularly and can still enjoy.  It's been several years since I've read Agatha Christie (and I still don't read them at night!) so I have been enjoying them again.
